The Department offers three degree programs: Agribusiness (5 options), Agricultural Economics (4 options), and Natural Resource and Environmental Economics (4 options). Each major and option has specifically designed coursework that emphasizes principles and practices that are key to your interest —some with broader focus and others more specialized. Our programs of study offer many advantages.

Joint programs with other academic disciplines. The Agribusiness Program is a joint program with the  UNL College of Business Administration, and the Natural Resources and Environmental Economics major combines Agricultural Economics with offerings through the School of Natural Resources. The Public Policy option in Agricultural Economics allows students to meet the requirements for the Undergraduate  Public Policy Analysis Certificate through the UNL Department of Political Science.

Program Specializations. Department programs of study offer options and flexibility both in the major requirements and in free electives. This allows you the opportunity to build specializations in your area(s) of interest—or dual major with another program of study. If your interest is in commodity marketing you can choose the Agribusiness-Agricultural Marketing option; if in finance or bank management, you’ll want  to consider the Agribusiness-Banking and Finance option; or in both Agricultural Economics and  Agronomy or Animal Science if your interest is in farm and ranch management. Program flexibility also gives you the opportunity to build strengths through minors in other areas.

A 9-hour International Study component for all majors builds a strong understanding of agriculture and natural resources on a global scale. Study abroad or international study tour experiences are encouraged for all students.
