Dr. Mark

Darrell R. Mark, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Agricultural Economics and Extension Livestock Marketing Specialist at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Dr. Mark joined the Department of Agricultural Economics in January 2002 after earning Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in agricultural economics from Kansas State University in 2001 and 1998, respectively. His extension, teaching, and research programs are in the areas of agricultural marketing, livestock economics, and farm and ranch management. Dr. Mark provides risk management and price outlook information to livestock producers and allied industry throughout Nebraska and the U.S., addressing issues such as market impacts from animal health related international trade bans and teaching the use of new risk management tools like livestock insurance. His research interests include examining the impact of ethanol byproduct feeds on livestock operations. Dr. Mark teaches junior and senior level courses in agricultural marketing and risk management at UNL and a graduate beef cattle economics course. Additionally, he advises a number of undergraduate and graduate students at UNL. Dr. Mark’s teaching and advising program has earned him several university awards and his extension programs have been recognized by the American Agricultural Economics Association, Western Agricultural Economics Association, and a number of industry organizations.

A native of South Dakota, Dr. Mark graduated from South Dakota State University in 1997 with a B.S. in agricultural business. He maintains an active interest in his family’s grain and livestock operation in southeast South Dakota.
