Decision Making at Work for Nebraska

Agricultural Economics Ambassadors

 Lance

Lance Atwater

Hi everyone, I am Lance Atwater and I am currently a junior Agricultural Economics major. I grew up on a farm operation near Ayr, NE where we grow popcorn, white corn, yellow corn, and soybeans and also have a small herd of cattle. On campus I am involved in the Agribusiness/Ag Econ Club and NAMA (National Agri-Marketing Association). I have really enjoyed my experience at the University so far and have made a lot of new friendships since being here! I hope to someday work for an agricultural company working in either sales or human relations, while also helping out with my family's farm operation. If you have any questions about our department or even UNL let me know!

 Jana

Jana Cool

Hi! My name is Jana Cool and I am a Junior Agribusiness major with an emphasis in Banking and Finance. I was raised on a Sandhills cattle ranch near Arnold, NE where I developed a strong passion for agriculture. I chose UNL and the Department of Agricultural Economics specifically because of the opportunities to become involved and network with faculty, industry leaders, and other students. When I came to campus, I immediately got involved in many different groups including the Agricultural Economics/Agribusiness, Nebraska Agricultural Youth Council, CASNR Week Programming Council and the Burr/Fedde Residence Hall Senate. I feel very at home on this campus because everyone is very friendly. The staff on campus is very dedicated to helping you succeed. All of my experiences at UNL have been great for furthering my leadership and people skills, not to mention creating lasting friendships.

 Alissa Doerr

Alissa Doerr

Hey! My name is Alissa Doerr. I am a junior majoring in Agricultural Economics with a Public Policy option. Having been raised on a family farm near Creighton, Nebraska, I am extremely passionate about agriculture. I am especially interested in agricultural policy and farm legislation. This summer, I gained experience in these areas by interning at Nebraska Farm Bureau in the Governmental Relations Department. One of my favorite things about East Campus besides the friendly environment is trying all the different flavors of ice cream at the Dairy Store. Did you know they have sweet corn ice cream?! Besides eating ice cream, I enjoy fishing, running, reading a good book, playing the piano, and meeting new people. One of the best ways to meet new people is becoming involved on campus. Some of the activities I am involved in are Nebraska Beef Industry Scholars, Block and Bridle, National Agri-Marketing Association, and intramural sports.

 Ty Schurr

Ty Schurr

Hello everyone, my name is Ty Schurr. I am currently a junior majoring in Agribusiness with an emphasis in Ag Banking and Finance. I grew up on a farm/ranch operation near the small community of Farnam, NE, where I developed a huge interest in agriculture. I am a 2009 graduate of Eustis-Farnam High School. I chose UNL to further my education because I was impressed with their strong agriculture program. I also had a great desire to live on East Campus. I am experiencing a very positive and rewarding education with numerous knowledgeable and caring professors. I am a member of Alpha Gamma Rho (AGR) Fraternity, which has enabled me to gain additional support and guidance throughout all aspects of college. I am currently the Athletic Chair for AGR. Involvement around campus has provided many positive opportunities for me since enrolling at UNL. I am a member and officer of various clubs on campus including Ag Economics/Agribusiness Club (Protégé Co-Chair), CASNR Student Advisory Board, NAMA (National Agri-Marketing Association), and the FFA Alumni Club. I look forward to each fun-filled year at UNL. Go Big Red!!
