Marketing costs can be important when producers who market locally are evaluating their marketing alternatives. The Excel® spreadsheet, LocalMarketCALC, helps producers to estimate all associated costs and allocate them between markets and enterprises.
A producer can use it to compute the costs for up to ten markets and allocate them across up to ten products. It also provides for allocating the costs for goods that last more than one year over multiple years and markets. Finally, it accounts for produce that is discarded or lost in the marketing process.
This information is used to calculate the weighted average market price for each of the included products and its marketing cost per unit of produce sold.
