Biography
Lilyan Fulginiti specializes on research in production economics and microeconomic foundations of growth with an emphasis on international agricultural development and sustainability of resource use. Fulginiti began her career as an economist with the World Bank in Washington, D.C. where she had the opportunity to work in developing countries focusing on the political economy of agricultural pricing policies. She joined the faculty at Iowa State University in 1989 and has been with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln since 1996, where she is a Professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics and a fellow of the Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute. She has published extensively in professional journals and has contributed to books and articles in other outlets. She teaches production economics, and agricultural development in the Ph.D. program and an undergraduate environmental and energy economics course.She earned a doctorate from North Carolina State University, a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor’s degree from Universidad Nacional del Nordeste, Argentina.
Fulginiti was honored twice with an Organization of American States Fellowship, an American Association of University Women International Fellowship, a Rockefeller Foundation award and an international fellowship from Rotary International. In 2015 she received the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Graduate Education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In 2016 she received the Best Journal Article Award from the International Association of Agricultural Economists. During 2013-2015 she was a member of USDA’s External Review Committee of ERS Agricultural Productivity Accounts.
She is an associate editor of the Journal of International Agricultural Trade and Development and the Journal of Productivity Analysis, was on the editorial board of the Journal of Global Food Security, and has been associate editor of the Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics and the American Journal of Agricultural Economics.
