For the first time in more than 10 years, wheat producers may need to consider the acronym LDP as part of their marketing decisions. The marketing loan program provides underlying income support tied to a national average loan rate for program commodities. In the case of wheat, that loan rate is $2.94/bushel nationally, adjusted for class and county across the country.

Farm Program Payment Estimates - June 2016

Farm program payments under the 2014 Farm Bill have become substantial as prices have declined over the past few years. Farm program payments on the 2014 crop that were paid in late 2015 contributed more than $600 million to Nebraska producers' cash flow and bottom lines, helping to cushion some of the challenges of lower commodity prices.

ARC/PLC, Base, and Yield Deadlines Extended to April 7

USDA-FSA announced today an extension of the deadline to make the ARC/PLC program election and the accompanying base acreage reallocation and payment yield update decisions. The decisions will now be due at local FSA offices by April 7, 2015 with producers required to get an appointment or get registered for an appointment by that date.

Base and Yield Update Decisions Extended to March 31

USDA has just announced an extension of the deadline for the base and yield update decisions from today (February 27) to March 31, consistent with the ARC vs. PLC election decision deadline.

Farm Bill Here at Last (Maybe)

After several years of debate and development, a new farm bill seems to have finally reached the finish line. At least, the final compromise legislation has been reported out of the conference committee today, Monday, January 27 and appears ready for a floor vote in the House as soon as Wednesday, January 29.
